Pre-implantation Genetic Testing for Aneuploidy (PGT-A) evaluates the chromosome count of developing blastocysts prior to uterine transfer. A normal human cell possesses 46 chromosomes (23 pairs); embryos with missing or extra chromosomes (aneuploidy) often fail to implant or lead to early miscarriages.
Clinical Indications for PGT-A
PGT is strongly indicated for women aged 37 and older, couples with recurrent miscarriage, or those with previous unexplained implantation failure. By ensuring only euploid embryos are transferred, clinical pregnancy rates are substantially elevated.
